Background and History

Desert Mirage High School GREEN Academy Compost Project is focusing on waste reduction strategies and carbon sequestration through building soil from the leftover food from on-campus mealtime activities. This project is located at the easternmost end of the Riverside county boundary, in an area where many residents are not receiving municipal organics recycling services.  Green Academy teacher & 2024 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Kreps leads this project with his students. Students are not only composting but using the finished soil in their gardens and soil science lab. The Desert Mirage GREEN Academy is empowering East Valley communities to compost and use the end product to reduce carbon emissions.
